Preventative Efforts of the CHAI Pediatric AIDS Organization

Many poverty stricken countries are plagued with high volumes of serious illnesses like HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. Most often those same areas also lack sufficient facilities and the supplies needed to provide adequate care on such a large scale. AIDS in particular is rampant in many underdeveloped areas of the world. Attempts to treat and prevent AIDS among children, a previously neglected sector altogether, have come a long way from nonexistence.  Yet there is still much to be done. The pediatric AIDS organization section of the Clinton Health Access Initiative, known as CHAI, is dedicated to filling the gaps in global healthcare provision so that adults and children alike can affordably receive quality care and medical treatments.

As recently as 2005, pediatric AIDS care was essentially nonexistent. Through the efforts of CHAI’s pediatric AIDS organization, the amount of those children suffering from AIDS who now receive treatment almost equals that of infected adults receiving treatment. Providing such care involves expanding local resources and facilities in order to efficiently and cost-effectively improved healthcare commodities in the area. CHAI must work with local governments in conjunction with the pharmaceutical industry to strengthen healthcare provision within the country’s own healthcare system. By allocating provisions to those areas where it is needed most, underdeveloped countries can better sustain long-term care for their ailing population.

Prevention is also a vital aspect of treating the AIDS epidemic among children. Preventing mothers from transmitting the disease to their children requires close comprehensive attention throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. Adequate care for the infected mother is essential as well as frequent testing for the child. The Clinton Health Access pediatric AIDS organization aims to reduce the crushing mortality rate of children and expectant mothers in lower income countries. It also aims to keep those currently suffering from HIV/AIDS as healthy and comfortable as possible while fighting the disease.

Carmel’s Boutique Hotel, The Bernardus Lodge, Re-Launches Legendary Marinus Restaurant, Retools Designs and Menu

Carmel, CA (PRWEB) May 16, 2012

The comfort zone long known as Carmel Valley – spiked with equestrian ranches, sweeping vineyards and raw, rolling California acreage – has progress on its palate. Set to debut on May 26, The Bernardus Lodge is transforming the Old World, award-winning charm of Marinus restaurant–long a destination for avid epicureans–into a new realm of possibilities. At the helm, chef and culinary director Cal Stamenov will raise the stakes on the extensive interior renovation with a sophisticated new menu that embraces today’s foraging zeitgeist with an eye to seasonal rock stars and sustainability. Known for its seamless art of service, Marinus’ new direction reflects the shift in today’s palates from tradition-bound temples of gastronomy toward a more informal setting focused on the purity of ingredients, impeccably prepared.

Inspired by Carmel Valleys wine country setting and a cache of European artisans, New Yorks Charlie Akwa and design team at The Silver Peacock will put their vision into play with a residential-style interior awash with elegance and simplicity. The new style fuses country wine estate with Carmel sensibilities; out go the stuffy linens and sommelier servicein will be a fresh earth-toned palette that showcases shades of green and touches of purple–sage and lavender, offset with olive and burgundy overtones.

Its an outside in approach, President Michael Oprish said. Guests only need to look out the soaring windows to capture the essence of this new space.

Local tradespeople will be tapped to integrate the new design along with a fresh new feel for the coveted four-seat Chefs Table and 12-seat Magnum Room. A stunning line up of natural fabrics from Italy and Austria will be showcased throughout the new interior for upholstery, table top, accent pillows and window dressing. New wall sconces and three hand-forged iron chandeliers crafted in Normandy, France, will serve as the rooms focal point.

Along with the new design comes a shift to a more informal dining experience to include reconfigured seating expanded to 60; a relaxed wine service showcasing Marinus 35,000-bottle cellar (a Wine Spectator Grand Award recipient since 2001); and a newly curated dessert, cordial and rare, small-farm crafted American cheese menu. Pastry chef Ben Spungin is also working up a stellar new dessert menu certain to raise some eyebrows. Also new is an expanded six-acre organic garden flush with 250 varieties of fruit-bearing trees, bushes and vines, exotic herbs, and vegetables for Stamenov to pull from.

Blending classical techniques with a commitment to sustainability and a cache from local foragers, ranchers and fishermanthe unsung heroes of the food chainStamenovs menu will deliver the top-shelf cuisine guests have long pilgrimaged for displayed in three themes: a vegetable-forward menu (including gluten free), a seasonal menu that spotlights products of the hour and a traditional menu with a riff on signature dishes. A five-course tasting menu ($ 125) will be available upon request. Mentored by the worlds top toquesAlain Ducasse, Pierre Gagnaire, Masa Koboiashi, Jean-Louis Palladin and Michel RichardStamenovs kitchen of 35 is committed to delivering on expectation.

The restaurant is scheduled to be closed in May 2012 to give way to the project.

Great Nutritional Carp Fishing Bait Food Supplements and Flavours!

How do you get even more bites from bigger fish? The answer is give them more of what they essentially need by leveraging nutrients as one example in your baits, by adding readymade easily-available high protein liquids. With over 3 decades of experience using liquid foods I can tell you a few of the best and how to use them to best effect; so read on!

If you want to boost your catches or make your baits pull more fish packing your baits with essential amino acids and betaine is easy although far from limited to just these. The daily requirements carp have for all kinds of nutrients means that we have a vital area of leverage to exploit. It is logical that carp are extremely sensitive to substances that keep them alive – betaine is one of them! (In fact we humans have an essential requirement for betaine too and it is found naturally in our tissues.)

Now if your baits have enough good reasons for carp to consume them they will have many advantages over a range of less nutritionally-stimulating baits.

But do remember that nutritional is only one part of bait formulation as many substances which are not directly nutritional in nature can very much influence fish responses and behaviours in the short and long-terms.

Whenever carp are possibly deficient in any of their essential nutrients, the inclusion of many of the most stimulatory of these nutrients in sufficient levels may be just enough to achieve a hooked fish when less nutritional baits may well fail.

The Rod Hutchinson brand is the oldest established bait company in carp fishing, and started in the late Seventies. If you want to know a few of the names that epitomise the pedigree and success of this company just consider just these 2 giants in terms of carp bait flavours namely, Scopex and Monster Crab.

Other great flavours I have used with very satisfying and consistent success over the last 3 decades include:

Megaspice, Mega Tutti Fruitti, Maplecreme, chocolate Malt, Strawberry Cream and Pineapple Cream, Secret Agent and Mulberry Florentine.

I wish to give Rod his well-deserved dues in recommending his completely trustworthy nutritional supplements which have caught me loads of bigger carp and other fish in all kinds of baits for 30 years. I have added various of these to my homemade boilies, pellets, ground baits, particles, natural sea food baits, meat and other baits, plus used them to top readymade baits of many of the big UK bait companies. My list includes:

Shellfish Sense Appeal, Regular Sense Appeal, Maplesteep Liquor, Amino Blend Supreme, Aminos Blend Swan Mussel, The Liver Compound, Compound TF, and Solutein.

There is a wealth of very productive and long-proven liquid foods and flavours available and please take note of this lesson. Some of the best products Rod Hutchinson ever brought out ended up being discontinued because shops wanted to condense their range of bait products. Some of these withdrawn flavours were some of the very best that Rod has ever had but had yet to become legendary in public perception. By all this I mean that there are definitely giants like Scopex and Minamino out there and it is up to you to experiment and decide which products you are going to make legendary through your catches and resultant opinion! Experimentation in bait-making is highly productive I can assure you! Some of the flavours I am also very keen on from Ccmoore, include:

Anchovy Extract, Ultra Green-Lipped Mussel Essence, Ultra Peardrop Essence, Ultra Belachan Essence, Ultra Bloodworm Essence, Ultra Cranberry Essence, Ultra Tuna Essence, Ultra Tangerine Essence and Ultra Honey Essence, (among others.) I have recently been doing very well on a combination of Ccmoore Crab Essence mixed with Frankfurter Essence plus various essential oils and other liquid extracts.

Ccmoore have become well-renowned for their liquid food supplements like the Rod Hutchinson brand and some of these liquid foods are really becoming legendary in their own right. Ccmoore have 12 generations-worth of animal nutrition and feed experience going in their liquid food supplement designs and this background is an indication of their potency! Some of the Ccmoore liquid foods I have used with complete confidence and great success especially when targeting bigger fish include:

Feedstim XP, Marine Amino Compound, Red Venom Liquid, Bloodworm Extract, Mussel Extract, Liquid Super Slop, and liquid Salmon and Krill – which is a genuine legend in the making. You can use these either individually in any of your baits or in mixtures as I do. (Your baits really do become fish magnets!)

The secret in using natural liquid foods is in keeping them present in high enough levels in your swim, at all times and this is connected very much to your free-baiting skills and experience and the profiles of the baits you apply in terms of free amino acid-based liquid foods and other naturally soluble extracts etc.

Rod Hutchinson used to recommend low levels of his Regular Sense Appeal around 30 milliliters per pound of base mix early on as I recall, but I put lots more in and my results got better as a result. It was a real breakthrough for me to discover I could add loads more liquid attraction to my boilie base mixes than just the 5 millilitres of flavour and perhaps 30 milliliters of liquid foods.

This success illustrates that thinking about your baits, avoiding standard recommendations and experimenting yourself can really work well! This is especially when your homemade baits and fishing experiments are based on real-time catches-feedback. This means you will know very quickly exactly when you have a winner! The impregnation of machine-extruded pellets with nutritional oils improves their attraction and similar things work in regards to flavours, liquid foods and a range of baits including readymade baits, homemade boilies, pellets, particles, meat and fish baits etc.

Watering down your eggs with liquid foods and other liquids means your baits work more like pastes as they become more water-soluble and are both able to adsorb and absorb water far better into the bait as well as leaching far more liquid attraction. These few factors alone seriously boost bait performance. For more information see my biography!

Catch Yellowfin Tuna – Tuna Fishing Review

The yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) is one of the most economically important fish in the world. It is also one of the largest species of tuna, reaching weights greater than three hundred pounds. The bright yellow of the tails of the yellowfin tuna both as anal, dorsal and with the tiny fins in between makes them stand out and thus the name yellowfin tuna. The first thing you have to do is to pick a lure.

Most tuna lures have a Kona head, as the ideal bubble trail and surface action that the Kona head creates attracts tuna best. You should also set the outriggers, which are the arms that stretch from the side of the boat. Tuna anglers usually troll with four lines, although with the right equipment it is possible to set more. Troll until a fish strikes. If it is set correctly, the outrigger will release the line when a fish hits.

You should also keep in mind that yellowfin tuna are fierce fighters and they can put a strain on your gear no matter how small they are. If you are going out fishing on a private boat, you will have to equip yourself with a fifty-pound class, two-speed trolling reel, a broomstick-thich rod, and line in the 25 to 50 pound test range at least. Yellowfins will test your gear’s mettle, and so you will need to use strong leaders. You will also need huge number 9 or number 10 hooks that are baited with squid, skipjack, mackerel, balao, or other baitfish. You should know that yellowfins will also go for artificial lures.

You an also use a technique called chumming to catch tuna. What you have to do is to prepare chum, cut up bait while keeping all the blood and entrails. Pour chum overboard in regular intervals, and cast your baited line into the trail of chum behind the boat.

Now, these are just some tips and tricks that you can use on how to catch yellowfin tuna, the heavy-bodied silvery fish with a blue-black back.

Healthy Foods Equals Healthy Skin

Healthy Foods Equals Healthy Skin

We all know that our diet plays a big role in our health. Often times it has a direct effect on our organs. Believe it or not, the biggest organ that food effects is our skin. Healthy nutritious food equals healthy looking skin. On the other hand not so healthy food equals not so healthy looking skin. So, the next time you’re pondering what to eat, take a few minutes and think about what that food will do to your skin.

You have probably heard many people say that chocolate is bad for your skin, that it causes acne. You may have also heard how good water is for the skin, how it helps your skin look younger. These were once thought of as just myths; however over the years scientists are finding that there may be some truth to this.

It does make sense when you think about it. One of the functions of the skin is to sweat out toxins from our body. Most of the toxins comes from what we put in our body, so if we are sweating toxins from unhealthy food that’s what’s getting on our skin. Below are foods and beverages you should add to your daily dietary intake.

Healthy foods for healthy skin

Protein

Eating enough protein should not be a big problem for some being that we tend to consume quite a bit of meat. The good thing is even if you are a vegetarian you can still get your protein. Other than meat, protein can be found in beans, nuts, flaxseed, peanut butter, and other sources. The amount of protein you consume each day depends on your daily activity and body weight.

Berries and Plum

Berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries as well as plums are all very high in antioxidants.

There are other fruits, vegetables and beans that’s also high in antioxidants; however these berries ranked the highest.

Walnuts, Canola Oil, and Salmon

What do all three of these things have in common? The answer is quite simple, they all have essential fatty acids which helps us to have healthy cell membranes. Having healthy cell membranes is very important to the skin because these cells help to hold in moisture. Without them we would all be dealing with very dry skin. If your skin is dry you should try increasing your daily intake of essential fatty acids.

Whole wheat

You’ve probably already know the benefit of whole wheat when it comes to dieting and eating right, but it also works wonders for the skin. Whole wheat items such as bread, rice, and cereal. Whole wheat foods contain a mineral called selenium. Selenium is a major player when it comes to healthy skin cells. People who spend a great amount of time in the sun should definitely eat plenty of foods with selenium because it’s been known to reduce the damage too much sun exposure causes to the skin.

Green Tea

Whether you choose to take it orally or if you want to apply it directly to the skin, either way the benefit of green tea is amazing when it comes to healthy skin. Green tea reduces the damage that ultraviolent light causes to the skin. Ultraviolet light comes from the rays of the sun. These are the rays that cause skin cancer. So green tea will help to reduce your chances or even prevent you from getting skin cancer if you’re exposed to the sun for long periods of time. Anti-Inflammatory properties found in green tea is what makes it so beneficial to the skin.

Water

The amount of water you need to consume a day varies from person to person. It all depends on your size and activity level. As a start you should at least try to drink 6-8 glasses a day. Water helps to keep the skin hydrated. Pure water is best when it comes to skin care, not water that has extra additives. Water is also responsible for helping the cells to move nutrients into our body and toxins out of our body.

It’s time to really pay attention to what we’re putting in our body. Not only does it affect our overall health but it also have a great impact on our skin. The next time you’re planning your menu, make sure you include lots of skin healthy foods. Remember that everything you eat becomes a part of you. Eat healthy and your skin will thank you.

Improve the youthful glow of your skin by learning more about anti-aging skincare at SkinBeautyMall.com and DrSkinSpa.com , where all wrinkle treatment products are assessed based upon their scientific ingredients.

Fishy Video: Most expensive tuna ever sells for $750000

A bluefin tuna, bought for nearly three-quarters of a million US dollars has been sliced up and served to eager customers at a Japanese restaurant in Tokyo. The tuna, caught off northeastern Japan fetched a record 56.49 million yen, (about 736000 US dollars,) on Thursday in the first auction of the year at Tokyo’s Tsukiji fish market. The price for the 269-kilogramme (593-pound) tuna beat last year’s record of 32.49 million yen (around 420000 US dollars.) Though the fish is undoubtedly high quality, the price has more to do with the celebratory atmosphere that surrounds the first auction of the year. The winning bidder was Kiyoshi Kimura, the president of Kiyomura Co. which operates a nationwide sushi restaurant chain called Sushi-zanmai. The best slices of fatty bluefin, called “o-toro” in Japan, can sell for 2000 yen (24 US dollars) per piece at Tokyo sushi bars. But the restaurant chain is offering the tuna at its usual price of 418 yen (around 5.44 US dollars) for an “o-toro”, and cheaper for other less fatty parts of the tuna. With a long queue of customers circling the block around the restaurant, Kimura has limited orders to just one piece per person. The tuna was caught off Oma, in Aomori prefecture just north of the coast that was battered by the March 11 tsunami. Japan eats 80 percent of the Atlantic and Pacific bluefins caught, the most sought-after by sushi lovers. Japanese fishermen, however, face growing calls for tighter fishing rules amid declining tuna
